What's a bulb?

A plant’s "bulb" is its storage organ, also called a geophyte, which holds the plant’s nutrients that it needs to survive. Common plants that have bulbs are tulips, lilies, amaryllis, allium, daffodils, and onions. Other types of geophytes are:

Rhizomes - (iris, cannas, strawberries)

Tubers/Tuberous roots - (dahlias, daylilies, potatoes)

Corms - (crocus, gladiolus, freesia)

Root divisions – (peonies, bleeding hearts)

What is a hardiness zone – which one do I live in?

A hardiness zone is a geographically-defined area in which a specific category of plant life is capable of growing. Extra measures might need to be taken in areas where temperatures are high, like moving the plants from the ground to a much colder area through the winter. Click here to lookup your hardiness zone.
